Getting Started

You must be considering running as part of your fitness regimen. Running in the Philippines has become popular and more and more individuals are starting to join road races which are held almost every week in different places.  Some people have chosen to live a healthy lifestyle and they either enroll to attend Gym classes or buy a pair of shoes and start running outdoors.  Should you choose to start running as part of your fitness regimen, here are some things you need to consider.

1.  Get medical clearance - same is true for all fitness workout, you have to seek medical clearance before you engage in any form of exercise.  Advise your doctor of your planned fitness so that they can guide you also on how to proceed.

2.  Buy a pair of running shoes - choose the right running shoes for you. There are different types of shoes that would fit your foot type.  You can go to Runnr store at Bonifacio High street and have a gait analysis to help you determine the right shoe that best fit you.

3. Have a running friend/group - it is good to have a running friend with you or join a running club.  Running with a group is fun and since you all share the same sport and passion, you will learn also from each other's experiences and also help each other to improve. Of course, you can always run at your own space and  time, but it would be good to once in awhile run with a friend or group so that you stay focused and motivated to run.

4.  Set a goal - try to find your reason for running. It can be to lose weight, to join races, to run for a cause, etc.  This will keep you motivated to keep on running. You will be surprised also with the level of improvement as you are focused in meeting your objective.

5.  Register for a race - there are a lot of races scheduled every week, you can visit Takbo.ph for complete list of road races held in and out of the country.  It is good to register for a race because it gives you reason to be conscious of your running schedule so that you can train well.

6.  Enjoy the run - no matter what your reason for running, just enjoy it.

Here is a suggested 5k training plan for beginners (c/o runnersworld).
