Getting Started

You must be considering running as part of your fitness regimen. Running in the Philippines has become popular and more and more individuals are starting to join road races which are held almost every week in different places.  Some people have chosen to live a healthy lifestyle and they either enroll to attend Gym classes or buy a pair of shoes and start running outdoors.  Should you choose to start running as part of your fitness regimen, here are some things you need to consider.

1.  Get medical clearance - same is true for all fitness workout, you have to seek medical clearance before you engage in any form of exercise.  Advise your doctor of your planned fitness so that they can guide you also on how to proceed.

2.  Buy a pair of running shoes - choose the right running shoes for you. There are different types of shoes that would fit your foot type.  You can go to Runnr store at Bonifacio High street and have a gait analysis to help you determine the right shoe that best fit you.

3. Have a running friend/group - it is good to have a running friend with you or join a running club.  Running with a group is fun and since you all share the same sport and passion, you will learn also from each other's experiences and also help each other to improve. Of course, you can always run at your own space and  time, but it would be good to once in awhile run with a friend or group so that you stay focused and motivated to run.

4.  Set a goal - try to find your reason for running. It can be to lose weight, to join races, to run for a cause, etc.  This will keep you motivated to keep on running. You will be surprised also with the level of improvement as you are focused in meeting your objective.

5.  Register for a race - there are a lot of races scheduled every week, you can visit Takbo.ph for complete list of road races held in and out of the country.  It is good to register for a race because it gives you reason to be conscious of your running schedule so that you can train well.

6.  Enjoy the run - no matter what your reason for running, just enjoy it.

Here is a suggested 5k training plan for beginners (c/o runnersworld).

Welcome

Gone Running Club was formed by a group of friends who enjoys running and gives value to fitness and health.  The club was formed in June 7, 2009 while having breakfast after a running event.  Most of the runners are from the South (Laguna), and our normal running route is in Sta. Rosa Nuvali area.  The group intends to promote healthy living through running and other form of fitness and sports.  We value respect, integrity, and honor which are the basic foundation of each members of this group.  At the same time, we want to share our values to every individual who enjoys life.

Since running is a normal part of our daily life, we have adopted an advocacy which is to Run Against Corruption. The group intends to put a statement of disapproval to any form of corruption through running. For every stride that we make and for every distance that we take, we are boldly condemning corruption. We dont intend to be vocal about our advocacy, we will let our running speak for itself.  The more people running against corruption, the lesser are those who are corrupt.

The group does not limit its advocacy against corruption. Each member is free to choose his/her own advocacy which he/she can print at the back of the group's singlet.  Having to support your own cause through running is a good start to make a difference.

Everybody is welcome to join our group. Afterall, running is freedom and running is for everybody.  As long as you enjoy running and you run with a purpose, please feel free to join us.
